Chapter 7 - The First Chamber

Dusting themselves down, the party moved towards the nearest dark passageway. The quick sweep of a torch revealed a tunnel which soon turned right, obscuring any further view, so they moved along the wall to each of the other tunnel entrances, finding that only one showed a cavern ahead. All the other passages veered off in different directions, hiding what lay beyond.

“Well It seems to me we ought to investigate the cavern we can see. It looks innocuous enough”, said Del La Cour.  The others, still somewhat in shock, nodded their agreement, and the group struck out down the tunnel.

As they entered the large cavern, Laurence noticed something and decided to speak, “Our footsteps…They seem to echo more than I might expect.”

It seemed a small thing but was just enough to give De Le Cour pause, She slowed her pace just in time, as her foot stepped out into empty space.

With an uncharacteristic shriek she snatched her foot back, her eyes now fixed on the apparently bottomless abyss she had almost stepped into.

The chasm filled almost the entire chamber. Abbas pushed his way to the front, picking up a piece of loose

stone and dropping it over the edge, chanting, “one, two, three, four, five, six..” until they heard the faint sound of it striking the bottom. He turned to the others, “six seconds, that’s a long way down! I think perhaps this way is closed to us?”

Dizzy stepped forward, a smile quirking the corner of her mouth.

Chapter 6 - The First Signs of Dissent

Hi everyone!

Welcome to all our new backers and thank you so much for your support.

Please enjoy the adventure below!

Chapter 6 - The First Signs of Dissent

The cave was silent. The party sat still in the dust for a moment, each catching up with the events of the last minutes. They were trapped.

Laurence looked at the shocked faces around him and a sense of mission came over him. “Well it looks like we won’t be leaving the way we came in, but I still feel air currents running through these passages, so I think there should be another way out, no?”

The young archaeologist named Dizzy, looked up and forced a smile, “you are right of course, we’d better start exploring, May I suggest we stay together?”

Laurence was about to agree, when he noticed the look on Alami’s face. The amiable front Abbas had presented earlier seemed gone. Fear it seemed did not agree with the man, and that in turn seemed to anger him. “I know the legend!” he spat. “Only one of us can leave this place and I won’t compete with you, so I go alone.”

“Don’t be stupid man!” snapped De La Cour, “we will need each other if things get hairy down here.”

Her last statement gave Laurence pause, the legend of the Shadow Ape very much at the front of his thoughts. And it seemed to have an effect on Abbas too, “ Very well , I stay with you for now, but I remind you why I am here, there are rumours of riches in these caves. We all have our reasons for coming, but that is mine. I won’t suffer interference.”

Dizzy cocked an eye at this, “Unless of course we find something of archaeological interest that is.”

“As you say madam, as you say..” was Abbas’ reply, yet somehow Laurence wasn’t convinced.
